Feminism Is Politics And The Miss Representation Of Women Essay

There are many feminist issues in the western society alone, and many that women have been fighting for many decades. One area with large issues for feminists is politics and the miss representation of women within politics. The event in which I attended was a lecture and discussion given by Linda Trimble, a professor in the Political Science Department at the University of Alberta, who talked about her resent research in gender marking in Canadian politics. The lecture went as followed, an overview of her study, what is gender marking, quantitive findings and explanations, qualitative findings including cases discussing Kim Campbell, Paul Martin, and Justin Trudeau, and finished with a summary of key findings. After the initial lecture, there was then an open discussion on the study where those in the audience could ask Trimble a multitude of questions. The event was a very relaxed lecture and discussion on her study that went into a lot of interesting information that I had never heard before. Trimble was very open to criticism and suggestions to better her research and answered questions with much detail to provide the best answer she could for the audience. The event was very enjoyable and informative to me and opened my eyes to a lot of new information.
Trimble’s study looked at 30 different candidates, 11 of them being women, who ran for various positions in government between the years 1975 and 2012. Between those years there were thirteen national party leadership…
