Deciding to avoid face-to-face communication with a person causes them to feel less appreciated and makes it more difficult for bonds of trust to form. No one understands the negative effects that on-line communication has on an individual 's social interaction better than the director of Yale University 's Center for Emotional Intelligence, Marc Brackett. It is Brackett 's belief that children who communicate through technology are not connecting emotionally, and that sending texts “lack the emotive qualities of face-to-face interaction.”(Deseret News National) As Brackett explains to further emphasize his beliefs, children have a desire to be hugged and touched, not texted. This revelation should compel society as a whole to encourage face-to-face communication in place of texting in order to fill the vital social bond that is necessary for individuals, especially our younger generation.
