Face-to-face Communication “Social media is an amazing tool, but it 's really the face-to-face interaction that makes a long-term impact”(Goodreads 1). Felicia Day brings light to an issue that has become extremely relevant in today 's modern society: The growing use of technology has lead to a significant decrease in fundamental face-to-face interactions. Studies from Yale University 's Center for Emotional Intelligence show that people, especially children, who are spending more time engaging through a screen rather than face-to-face with other people “can struggle to understand emotion, create strong relationships, or become more dependent on others.”(Deseret News) There is no substitute for face-to-face communication; however, people are still drawn to any form of communication that allows them to avoid in-person conversations. While choosing to communicate through technology may seem simpler and more efficient, in reality, it deprives individuals of positive social and cognitive development, the necessary social interactions needed for the fostering of relationships, and the ultimate survival of humanity. Face-to-face communication and on-line communication are not interchangeable. In fact, choosing to communicate through the use of technology rather than face-to-face has proven to impact a person 's social and cognitive development.
