1. Briefly explain American liberalism and conservatism as political ideologies?
The American political ideology has divided itself into two distinct groups. On one end of the spectrum there are liberals. Liberalism focuses on the rights of the individual. Modern Liberalism aligns itself with ideas such as marriage equality, civil rights, and environmental protection for the good of all people. On the other end of the spectrum there are conservatives. Conservatism “is (in the sense of various religious, cultural, or nationally-defined beliefs and customs) in the face of external forces for change, and is critical of proposals for radical social change.” …show more content…
He is the longest serving senator in Kentucky history. McConnell is a republican who identifies as a conservative. McConnell is also important because he is currently the Senate Majority Leader. In early years McConnell was more moderate but as time has passed he has become more conservative. “In 2008, McConnell voted in favor of the Gas Price Reduction Act which would have allowed more offshore drilling for oil.” (GAS PRICES REDUCTION ACT) In 2010, McConnell backed the Tax Hike Prevention Act attempting to prevent tax increase which is a conservative preference. McConnell does not accept that global warming is a man-made problem saying in a 2010 interview, "I'm not a scientist, I am interested in protecting Kentucky's economy, I'm interested in having low cost electricity."

3. In what ways is the political ideology of the two different? Please make sure to provide specific examples to support your points?
In many ways of political ideology McConnell and Guthrie agree on almost everything. Guthrie, however, seems to be slightly more willing to work with liberals. Guthrie voted to protect the healthcare of small businesses in Kentucky which was a bipartisan effort. Yet the two are clearly on the same side and both
