Exercise Is Very Important For A Healthy Health While Decreasing Risk For Heart Disease
1. Exercise is very important in all age groups, but especially adults who are trying to maintain a good health while decreasing their risk for heart disease. The CDC recommends that adults get at least 2 and a half hours of moderate-intensity aerobic activity that can include brisk walking, jogging, or running along with muscle-strengthening activities (CDC, 2015). Although the recommended time of exercise is 150 minutes each week, the adult can break up that time into smaller sessions such as 30 minutes a day for 5 days. A good rule of thumb to know if you are performing moderate-intensity exercise is if you are able to talk, but not sing (Brown et al., 2016).
2. According to the Institute of Medicine, the daily recommendation for the intake of macronutrients are conveyed in percentage of the total caloric intake. Fats should make up 20-25 percent, carbohydrates 45-65 percent, and proteins 10-35 percent of the total intake (Brown, 2016). Fiber should be added into every daily diet because it can slow gastric emptying time and keep the stomach feeling fuller for a longer duration. Foods such as oatmeal, for example, contains viscous fiber that can decrease the absorption of cholesterol (Harvard Medical School, 2015). It is also recommended by NHANES that women intake about 2.7 liters of water daily to stay hydrates throughout the day (Brown et al., 2016).
