Examples Of Ambition In Macbeth

“Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none. So all hail, Macbeth and Banquo ”(Shakespeare, 1.3 67-68). This is where the witches are telling Macbeth that he will be king. Macbeth is a play written by William Shakespeare for King James VI, and this play is about Macbeth and how he wants power and is trying to gain it. In the play is magic like witches to help tell the story and because King James VI believed in witches. It all starts after Macbeth meets with the witches. In Macbeth, William Shakespeare, uses Macbeth’s tragic flaw of ambition to fit with the theme salvation versus damnation after Macbeth hear the prophecies from the witches that he will be the thane and then king, and decides to do whatever it takes. Macbeth’s tragic flaw of ambition makes him kill. Macbeth is telling Lady Macbeth that he has just killed Duncan. In the book it said, “I have done the deed. Didst thou not hear a noise”(Shakespeare, 2.2 15). While he is killing Duncan he feels bad but does it anyway because he wants to be king himself. At the diner Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are having with some other people Macbeth starts to see a ghost, in the book it said, “Those that we bury back, our monuments Shall be the maws of kites”(Shakespeare, 3.4 72-73). He is saying that there is no point in burying people if they are just going to come back. But the real reason that he is seeing the ghost is because he has Banquo killed, and the reason he has Banquo killed is because he wants to be king so bad and with Banquo there it will stop him. So, now he is seeing ghost and acting crazy because he is killing people to get what he wants. Which goes with the theme salvation versus damnation because he kills even though he knows it is bad and really does not want to kill
