Rather, the effective teacher performs many functions. These functions can be organized into three major roles: (1) making wise choices about the most effective instructional strategies to employ, (2) designing classroom curriculum to facilitate student learning, and (3) making effective use of classroom management techniques.” (Marzano, et. al, 2003) Within a classroom, materials such as behavior charts, rules, classroom jobs, schedules and timers are used to help students with Autism or any special need help with daily routines and staying on …show more content…
To do so, you will need to complete a functional behavior assessment that will allow you to identify the current antecedents and consequences.” (Bogin, et. al, 2009) Focusing on frequency of the behavior, the topography of the behavior and the intensity/severity of the behavior will be collected as the baseline. Frequency data collection sheet will target how often the behavior is occurring throughout the day. It is important to have a complete schedule of each day and every time the student’s behavior becomes disruptive, then a check mark will be added to the data sheet. Next, topography data (as known as A-B-C) will tell the antecedent, the behavior and the consequence. For example, what happened before the behavior (thought they were in trouble), what type of behavior occurred after being told to sit down (eloping), and what was the consequence (sit in front office). This data collection helps find the triggers of disruptive behaviors. Finally, how severe/intense is the behavior when it occurs; 1 to 5, 5 being high and 1 being low. It will take two weeks to collect all the data for intervention, knowing that the student will be at school every day. Intervention will replace the existing behavior. For example, there was a student that who would elope each time he felt that the teacher was upset with him. The
