Disclosure is the discovery of abuse that was bothering a child. There are many support that are available for children. This support will help the child to over come the past and to start again new in life. There are many different supports available for young people and children who disclose abuse. Support include: counselling, therapy, confidential help line etc.
When a child discloses abuse they can be referred to a counsellor. A counsellor is someone who works with children in their difficult times. They are trained to support children and to listen to them with an open mind. They understand how the child is feeling and know how to talk to them. It is an organisation that aims to help children over come abuse and to do something for the future to stop this from happening again. The NSPCC offer free confidential helpline for children and young children so that they can open up without fearing anyone. NSPCC is good because it is confidential and personal. They won’t tell the public about your problems and what you are going through. They offer free help for children and they can do something to protect the child from further abuse. However, NSPCC can be bad because children might won’t feel comfortable in talking to someone through phone. They might resist to share personal details because they have seen the person on the phone before. Therefore the NSPCC won’t be useful because they won’t able to stop the abuser. NSPCC can also be bad because if a child doesn’t have access to a phone, they won’t be able to contact the NSPCC. Some children don’t really know how to use the phone or won’t know the numbers and this can be a disadvantage because they are being neglected by not receiving any help. They have been working and supporting vulnerable children for the past 150 years and they believe they bring out the very best in every child no matter what situation they were been in. Barnardo’s offer therapy and counselling to help children come to terms with what has happened to them and move forward in life, and offer support to non-abusing parents to help them protect their children in future. They also offer the increase of public awareness of sexual abuse and to help children and young people protect themselves. Barnardo’s are good because they offer long term support for individuals. They will help you until you feel better. They will always be there to help. However, Barnardo’s cannot solve or fix every problem a child might have. Also Barnardo’s is a charity meaning it can close down anytime if they won’t get enough money making it less
