The first meaning is the most different from all the others. The first meaning is people who killed a political leader after using an intoxicant of marijuana (assassin). According to Merriam Webster, this meaning derived from the Arabic states during the first crusade (assassin). These people were first called the hashishiyyins. It wasn’t until the hashishiyyins got to Europe before they started using the term assassins. At first, you would think that assassin's only murder people for political reasons, but during the late first crusade they also are private mail carriers for many important people. These private mail carriers are very important to the history during and after the crusade. Regular mail carriers could get into conflict with other people, but assassin, mail carriers have defenses and weapons to fight back if under attack. The problem is that a ton of single-assassin theorists rely on the HSCA’s version of the SBT. As we’ve clearly seen, their version is totally at odds with the evidence and more towards a bias in desperate haste to confirm a predetermined conclusion and the government’s thesis -- a lone assassin. If its not the HSCA they rely on, they rely on subsequent “experts” of the case. Also... Pat Speer factually points out: “While many TV shows present the single-bullet theories of Dr. Lattimer, Gerald Posner, and Dale Myers as if they are the official government theory, the theories of these men are actually at odds with both the Warren Commission and HSCA interpretations of the wounds, trajectories, and shot sequences.”…

Over the course of United States history, four different presidents have been assassinated in office. None of these assassinations have occurred in the past fifty years, making these intricate plots for political murder seem so far away to many. In Sarah Vowell’s nonfiction book, Assassination Vacation, she takes the reader on a road trip—a pilgrimage, as she calls it—exploring the assassinations of U.S. Presidents Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield, and William McKinley. In the preface to her book, Vowell explains that these presidents, victims to some of the nation's most notorious assassinations, “can seem so long gone, so dead,” making it difficult for one to envision them as actual human beings that were killed by another person (11). She hopes to change this lack of connection her audience feels towards the victims of political murder and the important individuals in United States history.…

The connotation of a word is the meaning that is implied and suggested by the word rather than the literal definition. Many words have emotional, personal and cultural associations to it, which allow us to have our own interpretation to what is being shown. The prefix con- is a Latin word and it means “together, with”, telling us that connotations of words work with the literal definition. In Dorothy Porter’s ‘Not the Same’, the poet’s clever use of connotation and imagery helps shape the reader’s interpretation about the poem and how it is about somebody who went through a rough experience, and came out as a stronger person.…

War stories are gruesome. They capture the reality of war--death, grief, and pain. “The Sniper” and “Where Have You Gone, Charming Billy?” (by Liam O’Flaherty and Tim O’Brien respectively) are both shining examples of this; unpacking the glorification of victory to reveal how humans are dehumanized and trained to kill other people. Their differences outline a common theme: how war dehumanizes people from killing and guilt, and how that all builds into a catastrophe later on in life.…

Humanity is very delicate during wartime, and takes a lot courage to retain it. The novel, “The Cellist of Sarajevo” by Steven Galloway, is based on a real historic event. This novel is based on the Siege of Sarajevo (1992-1996). Galloway created fictional characters that could very well be real to demonstrate the damage and suffering of Sarajevo and its people within. One of main themes of this novel is that it is possible to retain one’s humanity during wartime, provided that hope of returning to the ‘beautiful past’ is present.…
