The Ethical Implications Of Accepting A Lunch In A Restaurant

As a new public servant in the field, there will be someone to show the ropes when it comes to the job either your boss and someone who has been around enough to show the ropes. So the boss takes you out to a local restaurant, and the check arrives. As the new guy, you pull out the wallet, because the boss decided to order dessert. When the check comes, eager to pay, the boss waives over to the owner and the tells our waitress that the meal is one the house, because of the service that is provided by us. So the dilemma is what happens next, accept the free lunch and move on, or refuse it and insist on paying the bill. Each having their benefit, but consequences. What happens next?

Accepting this lunch would be professional on a level, because the boss decided to invite the rookie to lunch. By accepting lunch, the rookie is forming a new bond with the boss. This could make it easier for the two to develope a relationship between the two. Also by accepting a lunch like could be unprofessional too. By accepting the lunch can be unprofessional by accepting a lunch for being a public servant makes the person look for accepting a few lunch for performing their duties. By turning the lunch, It could unprofessional for the sake of getting off on the wrong foot with your boss, who invited to lunch and go against their wishes and insist on paying for the bill. On the other hand, turning down the free lunch is professional, because It shows that there a certain level of professionalism for not accepting lunch by just performing their duty.
