Off Campus Lunches Research Paper

Imagine three senior girls piling into a small tan beat up car. It’s just like any other day, the sun is shining and they are all laughing and having a good time. They are going out to get something to eat during their lunch break at school because their school allows off campus lunches. One out of the three girls buckles their seatbelt, the other two did not even think about buckling. They pull out of the parking and start heading to Dairy Queen, the music was cranked up too loud and the sun was shining directly into the drivers eyes. Providing off campus lunches would decrease graduation rates and test scores because research shows that schools with off campus lunches have a low graduation rates. This is because students are coming tardy to class or they are not showing up at all. Denver public schools have mentioned the idea of closed campus lunches because of their horrible drop-out rates and poor rates of sending students to college after high school. The Denver Post mentions, “After all, if students aren’t in class, they can’t learn. And learning is more important than, say, grabbing a bag of Doritos” (1). According to Dassel Cokato Senior High, Dassel Cokato has an average graduation rate of 95.0 percent and the average graduation rate in Minnesota is 83.9 percent (1). By offering off campus lunch the rate of graduation would decrease because fewer students would be in class. Some may say that students need a break from the class, but that is what the lunch room is for. The lunch room provides the students with a welcoming environment and gives them time outside of the class. It also gives them time to talk with their friends.
