The first reason Okonkwo’s sense of identity was challenged with the introduction of Western ideas because of Nwoye leaving his father to convert to christianity. We see evidence from the text when “Nwoye did not fully understand. But he was happy to leave his father. He would return later to his mother and his brothers and sisters and convert them to the new faith.(pg.114)” This evidence supports my claim because it shows that Nwoye wanted to be nowhere near his father Okonkwo and no longer believe the same things.

We see evidence from the text when “ Okonkwo drew his machete. The messenger crouched to avoid the blow. It was useless Okonkwo’s machete descended twice and the man’s head lay beside his uniformed body(pg.151)” This evidence supports my claim because it tells that Okonkwo did kill a messenger. “There was a small bush behind Okonkwo’s compound. Obierika led the commissioner and his men where they seen Okonkwo’s body hanging from a tree.(pg.152-153)” Shows that Obierika led the commissioner to Okonkwo’s compound to see his hanging body.
Okonkwo faces cultural collision throughout the story with his family. The missionaries made Okonkwo take his own life and what was happening with his family. Okonkwo lost his respect he had before exile. He was trying not to be weak during the novel, but something can make everyone
