With the new law SB4 being introduced there are lots of different opinions on whether it is politically correct, and or morally correct. Many political bodies are questioning Governor Abbotts decision on siding with the law. I believe that, the law is indeed needed and useful for Texas in that we have a huge problem with immigration and it is ever growing. This new law, helps lessen the amount of illegal immigrants amongst us, and will help the Texas economy by freeing up jobs that have been taken by illegal citizens, also the law helps keep many sanctuary cities safer in the fact that illegal immigrants aren’t allowed to roam freely.
As stated in the online article written by Michael Pearson, about a recent San Francisco murder where an illegal immigrant shot and killed an innocent young woman, if the law had been in effect this possibly may not have occurred. At some point authorities would have asked for his papers and had he not been able to provide them, action would have been take to remove him from the United States. As of March 17, 2017, there are a total estimated number of 11,745,250 jobs in Texas, stated by the United States Bureau of labor, which means that illegal immigrants account for 138,179,411 jobs in the Texas economy(Texas). With having the authority to question if one is legally living in the United States this law would allow for a greater control over our borders. The law makes is legal to question one’s status by positions in power, this broadens the chances of finding and questioning illegal immigrants. This allows for a better monitoring of the amount of illegal citizens roaming amongst the rest of Texas citizens.
