In the scholarly article, “Immigration and the Changing Social Fabric of American Cities”, the authors David Kirk, Andrew Papachristos, Jeffrey Fagan, and Tom Tyler aim to explore the issue of law enforcement in immigrant communities. From this, the question of whether or not the safety of the public is undermined when it comes to harsher immigration enforcement is produced. The primary points of this article are to explore this question by analyzing the consequences of enforcing immigration laws, the utilization of police authority, and economic status of migrants. In politics, immigration laws have become more publicized and implemented. For instance, the Arizona SB 1070 intended to remove anyone that was to be considered an undocumented immigrant. There were a few states within the U.S. that supported this law and ratified something similar when it came to detaining these particular individuals.
