In early 2005, the city of Toowoomba, Australia was facing a future water shortage issues as its reservoir was drying up. In an attempt to stop this from happening, the city was working to find a solution and Mayor Di thought she had one. Her idea was to recycle the water they used. The city, however, did not support this idea as they did not want to drink or use dirty sewage water.
When Mayor Di proposed her idea, she underestimated how people would react to such a new concept in regards to cleaning water. People could not wrap their heads around how sewage water would actually be able to be cleaned and restored to safe drinking water. Now days, it is possible to take the dirtiest water on Earth and purify it. All it takes is some energy, effort, and money. Water can hurt us and water can save us. It is totally unpredictable. It is a source of everything we do on a daily basis. As water itself is fickle, we respond in a fickle manner. We only change our behavior in times of needs, times when water is scarce. As soon as the crisis passes, we continue on with our original activities and actions. We need to change our attitudes.
