Treatments include glucocorticoid injections, anthralin, or oral glucocorticoids which are immunomodulations. There are reports that steroid therapy is able to put the malady into remission, but there are side effects involved with steroids. Rogaine, however, is not a recommended treatment as the follicles are the target of the auto-immune deficiency and what Rogaine attempts to stimulate. Corticosteroids and Methotrexate, treatment for auto-immune diseases, have been thought of as possible ways to put Alopecia Totalis in remission. There are cases that have resulted in a fairly quick recovery of hair growth. The drug, ruxolitinib, has just begun to be tested in persons who suffer from alopecia.
