Trade is a big part of the Erie Canal, because it allows supplies from Asia and Europe to get not only to the East Coast but the middle of the US. Something that supports this is the Wedding of Waters by Jesse Hawley. This supports trade because in the text it stats, "The trade of almost all the lakes in the North America, the most of which flowing through the canal, would center at New York for their common mart",(Hawley line 2). Something that supports this is The Wedding Waters, because in the text it stats, "Transportation has been a formidable challenge for most of human history. Villages just twenty miles apart once seemed far away from each other"(Burnstein line1-2). Also in picture 2 it stats, " A bullhead boat, the J.J Belden, is locking through at an unidentified location on the Erie Canal"(picture two). Last of all, in chart one it shows the method, amount of time, and the cost per a ton, for both the dirt road and the canal. This is how the Erie Canal affected the transportation around it.
