The girl she loved, the girl she trusted above than anyone else, had managed to spread the news like wildfire, in a way that even the faculty had a different sort of tone of voice when addressing her. It was enough to prompt a meeting with the counselor and her parents - which wasn’t the way she ever thought she’d come out. Fortunately, her parents weren’t too bothered after Lizzie’s brother talked them down from their initial reaction, and their only second thought was to pull Lizzie from the school to avoid harassment.
After “coming out,” Elizabeth completed her schooling online - and that was probably the biggest blessing in disguise of the whole fiasco.
