Alcohol is one of the most dangerous drugs. It also causes many of teen car accidents. As I go through this paper I shall tell you of many accidents of teens or what alcohol can do to people under age or above age. I will tell you short term effects of alcohol, long term effects, what is alcohol, etc. Also what is alcoholism. The first thing I will talk about is short and long term effects of alcohol. Short term effects of alcohol involves nausea, vomiting, dehydration, loss of judgement and self control, reduced reaction time, poor vision, memory loss, blackout, coma, and death. Long term effects involve cirrhosis of the liver or permanent damage to the brain. Cirrhosis is a disease that replaces healthy liver tissue and is usually caused by long-term alcohol use. Alcohol may cause permanent changes in the brain due to cell death from repeated dehydration and lack of oxygen. Alcoholism is a leading cause of dementia in the United States. Dementia is a decrease in brain function that includes personality changes and memory loss. While alcohol-related dementia is seen only in people who have been alcoholic for a very long time, some evidence suggests loss of brain function occurs in virtually all heavy drinkers(Friedman, Stine, and Whalen 243 and 246) The second thing is will talk about is alcoholism.
