I believe this to be true due to the fact that artifacts are objects that represent how we order the world and politics is how things are set up or interact. For example, “histories of architecture, city planning, and public works contain many examples of physical arrangements with explicit or implicit political purposes” (Winner, 1986, 23). When it comes to the United States Capitol Visitor Center, the capitol it the artifact and its purpose of being a place for public and the government to interact is the politics. However, a flaw of the construction of the capitol are the massive beautiful stairs that lead up to the capitol. These stairs made it so people in wheelchairs were unable to go into the capitol. The intention was not to exclude people from the building with the construction of the stairs so the politics of the artifact were changed by creating a wheelchair accessible entrance into the United States Capitol Visitor Center. This shows that by knowing something is a certain way makes it easier to change it. “No idea is more provocative in controversies about technology and society than the notion that technical things have political qualities” (Winner, 1986, 19). Apple is a wonderful example of this with their new iPhone 7 which does not have a headphone jack. Apple has used their artifact to make people who want the latest iPhone have to accept new politics. Apple users must advance with technology
