On December 17, 2016, the council members of New Orleans voted to remove the Civil War-era monuments from the town. The mayor of New Orleans wants to remove the statues and consider replacing them with symbols that reflect the culture, unity, hope, and future of the city. The mayor and city councilmen would like to remove the status because they do not want anything to happen in New Orleans like it did in South Carolina. It talks about how there is a great amount of anger behind the confederate symbols. Goitia-Nicolas said that “Our lesson in history is that when we tear down the down the monuments of the past we rebuild the errors of our past.” That means that if we tear down the monuments it will probably bring back the old ways of people being openly racist. Although most people never owned slaves, the fact that the statue represents slavery upsets many. The goal of this source is to let you know that many people support the idea to remove the statues and many people are against the idea. The article offers a solution to the problem so that the city would not have to tear down the monuments instead they can just add other people there. In my opinion I think it is a good idea to think about adding someone positive to the monument to balance out the
