Sugar is crucial to an individual`s everyday diet and can be considered healthy in moderation. Konie is more effective in persuading the audience to consider the quality of life. People automatically assume sugar is unhealthy, and it is, but everyone needs it in small portions. The body needs natural sugar, not processed, on a day -to-day basis. The audience should not read the title of Konie`s article and think, “keep at it! Eat more sugar! Nope. Sorry. Life and good health are about balance” (Konie). Without the right amount of sugar, the body will slowly wear down and lose the energy it needs. On the other hand, I tend to feel very sick to my stomach after eating a hefty quantity of ice-cream from time to time. A typical American diet consists of too much processed sugar and additives that genuinely ruin our bodies and gives an elevated risk of life threatening diseases in the future. What everyone doesn’t know is that the right kind of sugar (in moderation) is good for every individual. Food shouldn’t be filled with a plethora of additives like an abundance of fast food chains now days. There have been vigorous studies to determine the effects sugar really has on humans and the result is breathtaking. The Journal of the American Heart Association Internal Medicine had conducted a 15 year study recently which “concluded that people who consumed more than a quarter of their daily calories as sugar were more than twice as likely to die… including increased risk of depression” (Richards). Believe it or not, sugar can actually be quite addictive in certain scenarios, boosting the brain`s reward centers.
