CARES data identifies opportunities for improvement in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). CARES provides on-demand meaningful benchmarks for continuous quality improvement (CQI) through its web-based program; it supplies the configurability for creating hierarchy organization accounts for individual assessment to statewide assessment. It incorporates two data entry methods: direct web-based entry or via electronic patient-care record (ePCR) extraction. Both methods are subjected to a series of validation checks to ensure data integrity. The CARES team supports one-on-one report interpretation and consultation comparing multi-layered metrics for interested agencies.

b) To recognize the NEMSIS version of the ePCR implemented within the state/agency. If the current ePCR system is in compliance with version 2, then it is recommended to upgrade to a version 3 system for ease of identifying data elements and possible data conversion cost.
c) To contact the ePCR vendor database coordinator and explain the process of CARES data extraction tool from their website*. It allows faster export of data and reduces the number of people involved in process. This process would help us in understanding if the ePCR vendor implies any cost for the extraction to CARES registry.
d) To contact the state HIE coordinator and explain the process of CARES data extraction tool from their website*. It will be extremely resourceful and cost effective, if the HIE can help in the export of data. If the EMS and hospital data are linked to the HIE, then no further involvement from EMS or hospital staff is required. This will benefit the state, since one organization will be responsible for data export and also in reduction of
