In “Du Tenth Sinks the Jewel Box in Anger” Li Jia is a character that does not achieve anything on his own. He deeply relies on his father financially. Consequently he is inexperienced in life since everything is hand to him by his father. Li Jia’s naïve personality comes into appearance when he comes in contact with Du Tenth and runs into Sun Fu. Du Tenth on the other hand has gone through many afflictions. Li Jia’s love experience is still under infancy when he meets Du Tenth, so it is fairly easy for Li Jia to mistaken that attraction for a women as love. Throughout the story there are many indications that Li Jia’s love for Du Tenth is not sincere. When Li Jia is in financial stress Du Tenth stayed with him and become more affectionate. Du Tenth does not leave Li Jia during times of trouble, it shows Du Tenth's unconditional love for Li Jia. On the other hand, Li Jia tries to avoid himself from showing up at Du Tenth quarter by staying at Liu’s quarter when he is unable to acquire the fund to secure Du Tenth.
