Case Study: Kathy
Kathy is a twenty-nine year old female, who is married and has three children. Kathy has been suffering from traumatic events that has occurred in her life that has led her to overdose of sleeping pills.
Symptoms and Diagnosis
Kathy has experienced three traumatic events in her life that has caused her memory loss. Kathy’s husband saved her from a fire in the home that Kathy couldn’t recall how it had started. Kathy’s husband is concerned about her safety since the fire, and how Kathy denies ever being intimate with her husband even though she is the children’s mother. Kathy shows signs of depression, she also has a multiple personality disorder, and is currently showing signs of Dissociative Identity Disorder. During her sessions, she will be able to open up and discuss the traumatic events that have occurred in her life. She will be able to speak about the three different personalities that she has endured. Due to her previous reaction with clinical hypnosis I will not be recommending that at this time. I also recommend that Kathy and her family seek family counseling twice a week, so they can further understand what Kathy has suffered, and why she acts the way she does. Family counseling will help the family cope with what Kathy has gone through and what she will be going through with her therapy. There is no medication for Dissociative Identity Disorder, therefore treatment can take longer before Kathy and her family have a sense of relief, because there is no medication it is recommended that Kathy take anti-depressants and medication for anxiety to control her
