This disorder involves unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the way a person thinks. According to the SAMHSA website these shifts include periods of manic and depressed periods. This disorder is the leading cause of disability and suicide. Some symptoms are inflated self esteem, needing much less sleep than usual, more talkative than usual, distractibility, intolerance, increased focused activities, involvement in risky and dangerous activities when one is in mania or hypomania and the absolute opposite when someone is depressed. When one is they feel down, fatigued, loss of appetite, worthless, and think of death more often. There is strong evidence that brain function. Genetics is also because this can run in families and is equally likely to run in boys and girls. This does not prefer any gender. Suicide is 15 times higher with a bipolar person. In combination with medication, psychotherapy including cognitive behavioral therapy, family psycho education, interpersonal and social rhythm therapy, and psycho education will benefit the person. Some medications include lithium, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, and antidepressants to stabilize a bipolar person’s moods. Other therapies include electroconvulsive therapies. Once someone realizes this is a lifelong management condition one can handle this with on an everyday basis and live a very good life.
