They worked just as hard, but there was discrimination used against them because of “tradition and culture”. African Americans during the revolutionary era were treated as equals on whaling charters, although during the WWII time they weren’t treated as well. While the war was still going on there were only two combat regiments with African Americans in them, the regiments made of about 40,000 people but there was over 200,000 African American people but they were not in combat and would do more odd jobs such as clean latrines, dig ditches, and bury rotting corpses. That time at war was horrible for the African Americans; one example would a quote by William Robert Johnson, from the 809th Pioneer Infantry. Weapons during the war expanded vastly and they even started to use chemical warfare. Some examples of weapons they used were machineguns, mustard gas, tanks, and one of the most important would be airplanes. Airplanes were a very important part of the war because it helped the war by bring supplies to warzones and even dropping bombs on the enemy. A good thing came out of the use of airplanes in the war though, it introduced the use of carrying people in planes. That then became used in the states which began the use of airliners to get place to place, making it easier and faster to get from point A to point B.
