For centuries, thousands of men sought after the dream of flight and never attained it. Figuring out how to fly, without killing yourself in the process, was a tremendous task. However, after several years of observation and preparation, two men accomplished their dream. Wilbur and Orville Wright, from Dayton, Ohio, had a dream to build something that could fly, but most thought it was nothing more than a crazy idea. With the belief that the sky is the limit when it comes to what can come from imagination, they built the first aircraft in history that went airborne. In 1903 they created a man made craft made of stick and fabric that achieved what was thought in those days impossible. Wilbur and Orville did most of their research in Dayton, Ohio, but tested their plane in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. They took turns lying face down on the bottom wing, with "the wind in the pilot's face". The Wrights' first flight went 120 feet in only 12 seconds, and those 12 seconds made history. As soon as the Wright Brothers successfully completed their first powered flights, they wanted to develop their new aircraft into a profitable product. By 1905 they had what they regarded as to be a "practical …show more content…

At the beginning of the war, all planes were disarmed and were not meant as weapons; they were used to determine enemy’s position . Furthermore, they had not even thought about using planes as weapons, and this idea was first started when two planes shot guns to each other. Additionally, this act of shooting guns in the planes was not an order, and pilots’ independent choice; some threw grenades at the opponents’ wings and some wrapped ropes around enemies’ propellers .
