Diabetes Chronic Diseases Essay
A chronic disease such as diabetes disease is becoming the top killer of Americans. Diabetes is a main risk reason for heart attack and stroke. In addition, it is the second leading cause of blindness and kidney failure. While diabetes can be treated, it is better to avoid developing it in the first place by taking the preventions necessary. There are several types of diabetes; Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational Diabetes. “Type 1 diabetes accounts for only 5% of all cases of diabetes and is characterized by a deficiency of the hormone insulin that regulates blood sugar level.” (Life Resource Center). Out of all three different types of diabetes: Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes, Type 2, is the most common diabetes, affecting about 90% of all people with diabetes. It is becoming a top killer of Americans, and yet there are no curable treatments for this disease. However, there is plenty of information to help prevent this disease. For example, having good healthy habits, good exercise routine and check regularly with your doctor. In conclusion, although diabetes can be caused from genetics or bad eating habits, there are several factors such as treatment alternative and prevention alternative that will help with the fight of finding a solution to this disease.
