Determining Your Perfect Position

Good leaders inspire the individuals who work for or follow them, and this relationship sets the stage for the purpose of what management is supposed to do. Leadership the one of the premier qualities of a manager and it is the vehicle through which they drive those who follow towards the achievement of organizational goals. Moreover, management in the upper levels of organizations, along with board members, although considered leaders and have considerable influence over employees, may not be leaders at all. The atmosphere is to be considered dangerous at all times. My usefulness in this industry comes from my ability to conform to the organizational rules of safety and procedure. However, one of the downsides to this leadership style is two-fold. Flexibility, creativity and innovation from team members may be stifled at times and team members who may be in need of a more empathetic leader may not excel under my style of leadership. So, based on the assessment I need to take into consideration to improve on my emotions towards personal issues concerning others and allow space for employees to be creative with their processes in completing tasks. By studying various leadership styles, I can gain more understanding and learn to be flexible in various situations.

Adopting elements concerning multiple leadership styles can be advantageous to guide employees to achieve success in different tasks. However, depending on the organization, leadership theories can also be acceptable. The three leadership theories, which may affect my decision to be an effective leader, are the path-goal, situational and substitute leadership theories.

Path-Goal Theory was developed to describe the way leaders motivate and support their team in achieving organizational goals, making the path to the goal a clear one. (Starker, 2008). A leader needs to clarify the task to aid the followers in understanding
