Blinding lights. Towering buildings. Eccentric performers. New York City has become a place known for making dreams come true. New York City fills people with joy despite the hustling of the city’s anti-social inhabitants the gut-wrenching smell of hot dogs and smoke, and the boring view of towering concrete buildings. Others have their noses in their phones and a coffee in their hands. People standing outside of hotels shoving pamphlets into tourists hands and screaming for the tourists to come. Multicolored dancers, Elmos, and Olafs stand in the middle of the brightly lit Times Square struggling to earn money from their exotic talents. There is no uniformity; everyone seems to be his or her own distinct person. …show more content…
Although winter brings the cold to New York, the perspiration of people rushing through the streets mingles with the unmistakable smell of Chanel Nº5. The distinct odor of cigarette smoke mixed with the sweet smell of marijuana fills the noses of all those walking through the streets. The smells of roasting hot dogs and falafel also become quite noticeable as food vendor carts pass. Gasoline from taxis mix with the rising smog from sewer piping that warm the streets to produce a nauseating smell. Under the streets, the smell of urine from homeless men and women fill the subway

My childhood in New York City was very difficult for me. I grow up in a predominantly Hispanic Dominican decent neighborhood in the upper Manhattan area called Washington Heights. Washington Heights in the early 1990’s was the heart of the drug trade. At one point in the 1990’s it was considered one of the worst neighborhoods to raise a child. I remember in the news, the news anchor reported that New York City was recognized as the crime capital in the 1950's through the early 1990's.…

Brooklyn, New York, a vas city often compared to a labyrinth and for good reason, it is known to confuse those unfamiliar with its surroundings due to its magnitude. He uses people and their behaviors to better guess the terrain he presently occupies, he will even go so far to describe smells that can be found in certain places in Brooklyn. New York is one of the business capitals of the world which makes it seem like an unwelcoming and cold place. E. B. White addresses this idea by slightly acknowledging this stereotype, but also ventures that this view is a misconception and that there is more to New York than one might assume. Rather than ruminating and conjecturing about the truth, it is better to travel to New York and experience the veracity…

As you approach South Beach, crossing over the ocean on I-395, you can already hear multiple styles of music playing in the distance.…

Crossing the sidewalk into the large park was like crossing the border into another world.…

The first sentence of the piece “ I have never seen the bay of Naples, I can therefore make no comparison, but my imagination is incapable of conceiving any thing of the kind more beautiful than the harbor of New York”, made me think about the views and beautiful places that Poland has to offer. I do have something to compare NYC to and sometimes, even though this city really is lovely, I feel like Poland or Europe in general might actually be a little nicer and definitely a lot cleaner than NYC. Yet, I also agree with Trollope when she says that “New York is one of the finest cities I ever saw.” In her piece she perfectly capture New York City, people will “ALWAYS find something new to see and admire”. I still find new things and places that seem to take my breath away every single…
