In your own words, explain why the stratum corneum is so important when discussing dermal absorption? The Stratum Corneum is the outermost layer of the epidermis and it is made up of stratified squamous epithelium with no blood vessels. As the cells of the epidermis divides and age, the older epidermal cells are pushed away from the dermis to the epidermis towards its outer surface (stratum corneum). It would be right to describe the stratified squamous cells of the stratum corneum as many layers of thin, flat, tightly packed dead/keratinized cells which will eventually shed off.…

Junior year I decided to simultaneously take AP biology and anatomy, which was difficult at times because both subjects heavily provide a lot of information. Overall, I looked forward towards learning about the human body because I genuinely wanted to know how the body works together to support itself. One notable challenge I had in anatomy was constantly taking assessments based off of the articles and what we learned. The class itself was fast-paced, which pushed me to devote more time towards studying and testing myself, allowing me to retain more information and prepare for tests. Of course that class changed me by causing me to develop studying habits whether if it was using quizlet and reviewing my notes, to watching YouTube lectures…

Although eczema research has progressed, the actual pathophysiology of eczema is reduced to two theories explaining why inflammation progresses to eczema. One theory describes immune dysregulation following immunoglobulin-E (IgE) sensitivity, causing weakness in the mucosal epithelial layer and allowing the development of eczema herpeticum and other infections to occur more easily. Studies have shown those who suffer from eczema, usually have a discrepancy in their T cells. Individuals with eczema also have prominent levels of T cells (Th17) when compared with individuals without the disease. People with mild eczema have an increase in the production of T cells (Th2), thus increasing the production of cytokines as well.…
