What was the westward expansion? Why did the westward expansion happen? Well, there is, not one answer when we expanded westward, but multiple answers. We expanded westward for reasons like gaining more land and take control of the Native Americans. But the two major causes of westward expansion were to gain jobs and explore the land. One cause of westward expansion was to expand the Americas by gaining more land. Evidence shows in document 6 that millions of acres in Nebraska and Iowa were up for sale. The land was also for sale in Kansas in two types of living: prairie life and woodland life. A primary source stated that an ad of Native American land was for sale showing that it was perfect for many types of farming. People of the west were making Native American land for sale for the emigrants to buy. Another ad from the time of westward expansion showed this. In this ad it showed the land for sale was irrigated, meaning the land needs someone to supply water in order to grow crops. The ad also stated that the land is agricultural

There was an ad for people moving westward to get a job in California to be a blacksmith with a wage of 100 dollars per month. The people who wanted people to move and get jobs in California are doing this to spread our population from east to west. The ad states a comment about women and men that would not normally be said in our society. The comment was “It is hoped that a large number of females will go, as are getting almost as good wages as males.” This comment would not normally be said at a time like today. But sexism was a large thing in the 1800s. If you were a female nurse you were paid 25 dollars per day. Any school teacher was paid 100 dollars per month.
