Manifest Destiny, And The Compromise Of 1850

On the quest for more land, Congress and the presidents ran into some political issues that had to be taken care of. The United States wanted to expand west, but they couldn’t do that without taking or buying land from Native Americans that were there before them. They needed to purchase lands that would make it possible for trade routes. During this time, the States were in need for someone to help them Compromise. Congress and the presidents responded to the people using Manifest Destiny, Congress created the Missouri Compromise, and the Compromise of 1850.
One way Congress and the presidents responded to the political issues raised by United States westward expansion is through Manifest Destiny. They believed that it was their right to go out and make the country America. They justified the westward expansion because they thought that it was their God given right to do. Jefferson called it an Empire of Liberty. Andrew Jackson claimed that expansion was the future of America. He was right, after all, but he went about taking the land of the Native America people in the wrong way. The Supreme Court ruled that the Cherokee Nation did not have to submit to the Georgia State Law, but Jackson did not respect the treaties made to them.
