Cultural competency increase respect,values,knowledge and skills amongst the PA and a patient.For example,to treat patient from different ethnicity,the PA has to make an extra effort,to learn different languages(even though its optional).Knowing your patient language increases confidence between the PA as well as his patient.Also knowing about patients background and culture makes it easy to exclude diseases like cystic fibrosis,sickle cell anaemia etc,which are found in certain racial groups.
