Criminology has always been a subject that has intrigued me. One of the reasons being the diversity of the subject linking with sociology, psychology and law. I love reading crime/thriller novels and watching documentaries on television. I particularly have an interest in reading Karen slaughter and Peter James novels. Crime is everywhere and there is an element of fear, which is perhaps one of the reasons I find criminology so fascinating. There are a number of key questions I am hoping to study in depth; what it is that makes a criminal commit a crime? What can the justice system do to deter crime? Finding out what it is that makes individuals turn to crime and what levels of support are available once they have done so. I am predominantly interested in drug-related crime and drug abusers. I often wonder if drug abusers see committing offences as a way of life, to feed their addiction. Newburn (2012, p.500) states “there are a number of ways in which it is theoretically possible for drug use to lead to crime” Furthermore, if the number of drug abusers is increasing this will surely impact the rise in crime? This is something I’m certainly keen to
