Craft Union Shop History

The first labor union was recorded to have appeared in 1607 by English planters found in James-town. Earlier unions were known as craft unions, consisting of few members of the same craft. Labor unions worked with others by trying to reach an agreement and create a contract with employers and employees talking about working conditions trying to agree on what's best for everyone. In back and forth conversations to agree on things is how unions represented its members instead of workers trying to talk to each other individually with an employer.

In order for the employers and employees to talk about working conditions and try to agree on what's best, the process can start a union shop must be organized. A union shop is a business or industrial

Strike is labor's most powerful weapon because of the loss of money forced on people, causing an inconvenient situation upon the employer. The loss of wealth, power, and reputation to a strike is that is that it also costs participating workers a loss in income. Picketing is just like a strike; it occurs when workers march outside a business carrying signs. The main goal of picketing is to discourage workers from entering the workplace. A union refusing to spend money on a business or buy its products is a refusal to buy services or goods from a business whose workers are on strike. Unions tell their members to tell their friends and family to refuse to spend money on the products of the company. Unions also try to get the general public involved and support their cause. A slow down is when workers, on purpose, decrease their output in order to force givebacks from their employer. Because the workers are not on strike workers can still collect their pay. Some Unions have chosen to ( because there were no other choices ) strategies that are illegal. There are three main strategies. The first on is secondary refusing to spend money on a business or buy its products, which has been discussed before. The second is strong-arm methods were unions hire touch criminals to force management into accepting the union demands. Some important management strategies are lockouts, legal orders, and strikebreakers. Lockout happens when management shuts down a workplace in hope of bringing the workers to the companies' terms.Sometimes a court will issue a legal order to halt a strike. Legal orders are very unusual. Strikebreakers happen when management hires new people to replace the people that are on strike. Strikebreaking, in my opinion, is the best way to handle a strike.
