Courtland Kelley was a former employee of General Motors. Being in charge of inspecting the safety of different parts for cars. Kelley investigated and found out that there were parts constructed of a defective manner. This was very concerning for Kelley because he knew the potential hazard it would be to the consumers. No one was paying any mind to him. They all agreed with Kelley that something needs to happen but no one made a move in making a change. Fed up with lack in care management, Kelley decided to sue GM in 2003 in hopes of opening the eyes of employees and management about the safety issues. This plan worked to his disadvantage. Now employees were more scared than ever to speak up about any issues in fear of losing their jobs. Feeling helpless, Kelley still persevered to continue to speak up about his findings of ill-constructed parts of various cars. No one budged to make anything happen. This issue was essentially GM was constructing auto parts that were a safety hazard to their consumers. He could have continued to stay quiet about the matter but because he had ethical values and beliefs, he knew that he had to speak up about the issue even if it was to jeopardize his career. He cared so much about the well-being of the consumers that he felt morally obligated to voice his concerns with management. After management didn’t really do much to resolve the issue Kelley’s attitude changed about his views toward the company because he knew realized that the GM’s intentions were not to benefit the consumers, but instead, their intensions were to benefit
