It is essential to recognize that each time the U.S. conducts an airstrike, more hatred towards the United States is growing. Short-term fixes often lead to long-term problems. It is vital that the United States tries conducting a softer approach by understanding the enemy better. At the end of the day, not every problem can be fixed with airstrikes. It’s important to recognize that the best alternative can be a diplomatic solution, even if it isn’t one that the U.S. government finds the most appealing. For example, providing them their own territory to claim.
If ISIS wants to obtain worldwide caliphate, perhaps they would settle for their own territory. The risk would be that they will continue to build their forces and plan to attack other countries, such as the United States. Alternatively, this could be enough to diffuse the situation in the Middle East. If ISIS were to declare war on another country, it would be more tactically sound to take military action against them without innocent civilians nearby.
The bottom line is that the government needs to understand its enemies better. The U.S. needs to find a way to sit down with the leaders of ISIS and come to a mutual agreement. If this cannot occur, the Middle East will continue to be at war for another hundred years and the United States will continue to grow further
