I think that a lot could have been done to prevent the French Revolution. However, a lot of the events that happened were not entirely Louis fault, or his at all. Some were out of his control but some could have been solved earlier causing less damage. These are the main reasons I think there was a revolution and what could have been done to stop it.
One of the points was that the French economy was in very bad way. The country was bankrupt as money had been wasted on unnecessary items and luxuries for the royals. The owners of the shops wanted to be rich just like everyone else and no one wanted to be seen as part of the third estate, everyone wanted to be seen as ‘higher status’. In my opinion people should have all tried to co-operate with each other more rather then just look out for themselves and their ego’s, something which was not entirely Louis’ fault.
Another reason was that the third estate was dis-pleased was that they were allowed practically no say in government. The etats-generale (first, second and third estates) worked in a way that meant each estate only had one vote. The third estate, by far had the largest population as these were the peasants and general workers and yet were only allowed to place one vote on the behalf of everyone. As well as this, often the first and second estates voted against the third estate and as they were more respected people such as nobles and the wealthy, their opinions were valued more highly then the others. Poor harvests because of floods, droughts and slow production effected the economy, and trade rules such as the feudal system from the Middle Ages still survived, making trade tricky. As well as this, the gap between the rich and the poor was becoming greater and with the poor becoming poorer and the rich becoming richer, an agreement between the two of them was nowhere to be found. Taxes were becoming greater for the peasants making everything more of a struggle and one of the major problems that the government should have dealt with long ago is the use of the funds that they did
