While I personally do not believe in any of the non-scientific reasoning or methods that were debunked (in a way) during the film, I appreciated the way that it was done, and the way that they handled the tricky situations by not being disrespectful, but more or less just disagreeing. This was especially true for the dowsing part, where the older fellow had no luck in the different trials of finding the metal underneath the plastic trashcans. It is hard not to notice how our unconscious can make us believe in something; when all we are looking for is evidence that can confirm what we want to know. I think that that was common theme in all of the different parts of the film. Some people really want to believe that extraterrestrial life exists, so when they get evidence that sort of seems to support this belief they refuse to see other evidence that contradicts it, they refuse to see that the materials that were found in the crash site, are earthly materials and that they probably would not have survived in space or crossing the atmosphere. It also shows how a person who doesn’t believe in palm reading can all of a sudden be a successful palm reader, because the woman’s unconscious basically tells the guy what she wants to
