Signs M Night Shyamalan Essay

¨Are you the kind that sees signs, that sees miracles? Or do you believe that people just get lucky?¨ In the film Signs, M. Night Shyamalan expresses his theme of ¨the signs are there we just have to look for them and believe¨ through his use of symbolism, characters, and flashbacks. In the fim Signs, Shyamalan's primary way to incorporate his theme was through symbolism. Shyamalan uses symbolism by coinciding the aliens to a greater lifeform. An example of this is when Merrill and Graham are in the closet watching the TV then in the news the they show a bird over mexico hits the invisible spacecraft. This symbolises that even though we may feel alone that we aren´t. Another great example of symbolism is with the baby monitor. Shyamalan does this by giving them ¨weaknesses¨ but they actually end up saving their lives. Throughout the story Morgan has asthma multiple times he almost dies because of this condition. At the end of the film his asthma actually saves his life. This happens when all the aliens are gone but one and it's in the house. The alien grabs hold of morgan while he can't breath (because of the asthma) and shoots poison down his mouth. Thankfully because of the asthma the poison did not get past the esophagus. Another example is with Bo. Throughout the story Bo was always picky with water she always said ¨it's contaminated¨ and stuff like that, because of this ¨condition¨ they had water all around the house. This was her weakness for most of the story, but at the end it was one of the greatest advantages that they've had. When the alien grabbed morgan they used the water to defeat the alien. Without Bo´s ¨condition¨ morgan would have been dead. Sometimes your greatest weakness could be the best thing that's happened to you and to
