“This teleplay is awesome,” I said. It’s called “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street.” It’s about a neighborhood’s power and phone line going out and the people think that aliens caused it. I believe that this teleplay is realistic because the power goes out, mobs occur, and a meteor comes by.

First of all, the reason why I believe that this teleplay is realistic is because power-outages occur all the time. Sometimes power lines fall and causes the power to go out at a certain place. Secondly, mob’s happen all the time. The reason why this neighborhood became a mob is because they were scared. Some people become riots in real life because maybe the power goes out for a long time. Lastly, meteors soar by earth occasionally. I saw a meteor fly by when I was younger. People see these things a lot.

After reading the texts, “To what extent did the Cold War shape the American domestic life of the 1950s?”, and “Monsters Are Due on Maple Street”, written by Rod Serling. I discovered that Rod Serling never specifically cites the Cold War in his teleplay “Monsters”. Yet Mr. Serling portrayed throughout the story to illustrate a picture of paranoia, distrust, and fear that created an atmosphere of the United States during the Cold War. To begin with, the setting in the beginning of the of both texts were peaceful and ideally. However, after electricity stopped working on Maple Street people were flustered.…

Frederick Douglass once said, “where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.” We spend most of our lives reading or watching all the unfortunate things happening around us. We are so quick to judge and believe everything we hear or see. Life was the same back in the1960’s. In an article “The Lure of Horror” published in November 2011, Dr. Christian Jarrett is the Psychologist’s staff journalist mentioned “Movie monsters provide us with the opportunity to see and learn strategies of coping with real- life monsters should we run into them, despite all probabilities to the contrary“.
