Technology is one of the key elements for both for-profit organizations and nonprofit organizations in providing modernized medical services for the vast amount of populace in all the various geographic locations. At one time, the means of one doctor being able to consult with another doctor was by either sending messages or a messenger or by traveling to the other practitioner via stage coach or horse and buggy, depending on the geographic location. In order to understand this, one must understand the viewpoint and responsibilities of the financial manager. The role and responsibilities of the financial manager according to Cleverley, Song and Cleverley (2011), is to “evaluate the financial condition of the entity, evaluate stewardship within the entity, assess the efficiency of operations, assess the effectiveness of operations, and determine the compliance of operation with directives”. They also “provide theory, concepts, and tools necessary to make better decisions”, (ache.org, n.d.). Their perspective for health care is to handle the “financial operations, such as negotiating contracts, making cash available for expenses such as payroll, and maintaining a cash cushion for unexpected costs”, (Brumley, 2016). The viewpoint or perspective of the financial manager and or financial staff, should be in alignment with the share-holders in that profits are being made with the for-profit organizational guidelines. Or, aligned with the community for nonprofit services for the needs to be met. Furthermore, financial management needs to be exemplary leaders, “hospital executives must prepare administrators to effectively lead during a time of transformational change in our health care system”, (Freel PhD, 2012). Competition for patients is also a main concern for financial economic growth for hospitals, clinics and doctors’ offices, thus, “hospital administrators must be prepared to balance current financial strain while position for the future”, (Freel PhD, 2012). As health care facilities need to make money to operate, patient satisfaction is another perspective of great concern, and play a major part in what and how decisions are made in regards to expansions.
