Different forms of treatments comforts patients in different ways, so patients’ complementary therapies to assist in their wellbeing. They have the right to choose their form of treatments; complementary and alternative therapies. The purpose of this paper is to bring to readers the understanding of complementary therapies, types of complementary therapies, historical background and context, regulation and uses; EBP and research utilization in the traditional environment of complementary therapies. In this paper will mainly focus on complementary therapies, but you will also learn a little about alternative therapies for the whole person.


Complementary therapies are a form of treatment patients receive with their conventional medical treatments or mainstream care. They can help with cancer, depression, nerves, musculoskeletal problems, anxiety, arthritis and many more. They can help patients with cancer live a more comfortable life; to cope with the symptoms and side effects caused by the cancer treatments. Complementary therapies also incorporate with alternative therapies CAT (complementary and alternative therapies). The types of complementary therapies include nutrition related therapies such as herbal medicines and non-nutritional like; acupuncture, yang, yin, yoga, massage therapy, tai chi and reiki.
