Gilgamesh goal is to over power the ultimate Humbaba. ”Tomorrow you will be victorious” (beers 51). In Beowulf he wanted to achieve that his people would be stay safe and remain unharmed. In order to protect his town he had to defeat a powerful dragon with many obstacles in the way. One major effect that prevented Beowulf from demolishing the dragon was that a spell was put on him by an enemy, Grendel. “The glittering sword failed when it never should have” (beers 35) This caused Beowulf 's sword to not work and be defenseless against the dragons mother. With such strong bravery from Beowulf he continues to fight when he comes across the powerful viking sword and accomplishes victory. Unfortunately this wasn 't the end and he still had to go into the layer to defeat the dragon for his people of Herot. It was a strong fight between the two enemies but the dragon attacked and cut Beowulf leaving him to bleed to death. No one had ever attempted to defeat the dragon before. This sets the tone as spooky, and mischievous. The setting of the story relates to the mood because it 's about getting even for past events. A battle field is ironic sense Achilles wanted Hector dead and many people have died at war. “Life or death, now prove yourself a spearmen, a daring man of war” (beers 61). The fight is serious for survival and Achilles didn 't seem to be worried. “The end closed in around him” (beers 65) Anger and rage can contribute to death, this affects the mood because if Hector never killed Achilles good friend he would still be alive, one act changed everything. The main setting in Gilgamesh was a swamp. This sets a background from where the monster comes from. The mood is dark and worried because they didn 't know what to expect in the forest. “The two friends moved slowly toward the forest gate” (beers 49) this show that they were cautious and prepared for the monster. Enkidu and Gilgamesh were good friends for many years that they helped each other stay strong and wise, this relates to the mood because they achieved destroying the monster with one another 's help. “Enkidu feared his friend was weakening and called out Gilgamesh don 't trust him”
