Platonic Forms
Platonic forms relate to this “The One over the Many” because Plato believes that if there are many things that have the same name then there has to be a form for that set. For example, there are many cotton shirts, each shirt or many shirts can be made by the same type of cotton. A particular is a specific thing that is different to a similar thing or object. If I had two pieces of gum that were slightly different then they would not be the same due to the slight difference. Even though they might look the same, we know already that they are not.
Appearance and Reality
Plato believes appearances are separated from reality. He believes that reality doesn’t consist of animals and rocks but it is filled with “pure” objects. By “pure” objects I think what Plato meant by that is reality is more than what the human can distinguish. We cannot see everything that may actually be happening if anything is happening at all.
Monists Vs. Pluralists
Parmenides believes motion is untrue because something would have to move to where something is not, which something is always there according to him. Space is not true either then because nothing is “empty”. It either has air which is not space or an actual thing or object. On the other hand, Democritus believes everything is made of atoms and the only difference is within the size, position, motion, shape and distance from one another.
