In Dags the pressure on Gillian to conform comes from two places, at home and at school. The pressure to conform at home comes from her sister Bronwyn. Bronwyn expects Gillian to of had a boyfriend, be a bit more popular and be prettier. The stress to conform from school comes from seeing her peers becoming couples and glowing up.
At the beginning of the film Gilbert is portrayed as a character that doesn’t want to conform to society’s expectations and to what everyone else is doing. In some ways, this helps him but in other ways it has a negative impact such as his job at Lamson’s grocery only provides the Grape family with a little income, it also doesn’t provide the family with fresh and healthy products. In an opening shot of the film Gilbert talks about the town of Endora as like “dancing with no music”. This depicts the town as quite desolated and derelict. Endora appears to of had the life sucked out of it and is therefore stuck in time. Hallström (director) uses long shot to show the abandoned town’s empty streets and building. …show more content…
