In What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Gilbert and his brother, Arnie are living in Endora. Arnie is a kid with special problems and needs special care. They leave a “ordinary” life with their two sisters and their gigantic mom. Gilbert is in love with a lady but then Becky comes to town because their car broke down and they stay until it gets repaired. In the whole movie they also plan Arnie’s 18th birthday and that day their mom dies. They burn the house and leave town after a while. Friendship is related to survival in Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck. George and Lennie, two migrant farm workers, depend on each other and other several people in order to make some sort of money and survive wherever they go. In their journey they meet several people some doing other jobs from theirs and some the same. Like all the times that Lennie putted both of them into trouble and they are still good friends. Lennie and George are friends from a very young age and when his aunt Clara is about to die she tells George to take care of him so he does. Lennie panics and gets confused when Crooks tells him “S’pose George don’t come back no more. What ‘ll you do then?”. Lennie was shocked and went on to kill Crooks for saying that kind of things. Lennie doesn’t understand the kind of example that Crooks is trying to set. So that proves that Lennie is loyal to George and that he would do everything for him.
