In both of are grand Christian mosaics. Comparing the mosaics they both contain gold plating throughout. The style of the individuals in both are also very similar in their look. Also in both of these Cathedrals is a large dome containing Christ and his 24 disciples. To contrast them, St Mark’s Basilica is far more detailed. There are multiple domes, and every space within the Cathedral seems to be filled with some form of art. While the Greek Orthodox Cathedral contains far less. In the Greek Orthodox Cathedral, there are detailed stain glass windows, and there are none on St Mark’s Basilica. As far as the outside of both churches, St Mark’s Basilica is not only covered and art, it is also complex, and it is covered in statues. In said book was what the title claims to be, gospels. The book throughout tells stories and shows events related to Christianity. “The reason Saint Augustine himself came to England, was to spread the word of God” (Norman). On a number of pages there is illumination, which is the use of either gold or silver. The use of this gold gives an even more powerful view of God in these gospels. On some pages in fact, the gold has been burnished to give a smoother and shinier look. The manuscripts are also made of vellum, which is thinned out calfskin that they wrote in the manuscripts. The page, such as the picture I linked, showed scene after scene through drawings. Done so, as Michael Rosen said in the film, “for those who can’t read.” (BBC) The border of certain pages also is covered in plants. I enjoyed the drawings once again present throughout the illuminated manuscript. The thought that comic strips of sorts were created 100’s of years before those we know today is mind boggling. The style used is able to tell a story, along side religious text for those who can read. Allowing for another depth of understanding and enjoyment for those who can in fact
