Vampires are popular in contemporary culture. They are the go-to creatures, the phenomenon people love featuring in TV shows and movies, such as The Vampire Diaries and True Blood. Vampires are some of the most popularized and interesting creatures depicted in fiction. They are the vampire’s literature raves about in novels; however, these creatures have taken an alternate route in appearance regarding popular media. Therefore, both shows tweak the tale of vampires and reconstruct vampirism to fit our realistic fantasies of how vampires should be depicted in modern-day.

Furthermore, both shows had a compelling, and intriguing theme of vampires trying to survive and assimilate with humans. It all began with the creation of vampires and how they came to be. In True Blood, it is said that all vampires were created by God, followed by the creations of Adam and Eve and a vampire name, Lilith. On The Vampire Diaries, vampires originated from a family name the Mikaelsons, a family created by magic and a white oak tree. The drama on True Blood is centered around synthesized blood, and making vampires as comfortable as possible around humans, while protecting humankind from their advantages of vampirism. In The Vampire Diaries, the story revolves around two brothers, and their love interest who later meets her fate with vampirism. The show was curated to center around a cure for vampirism and seeking a haven for vampires. Overall, True Blood doesn’t prioritize their characters into searching for a place that is safe for all vampires; they rather blend in with society than be forcefully cast out of by humans because of their fear of …show more content…
The gradual evolution of vampires portrayed in these shows—from being illustrated as deviant monsters to becoming romanticized heartthrobs—modernizes the depiction of vampires told in mythology. These shows stray away from the traditional feared vampire and become desirable creatures. When we compare the portrayal of vampirism in these shows, we find striking contrasts. However, the difference is how True Blood captures its portrayal of vampirism in a realistic way, leading a very convincing argument on why True Blood is a preferable show.
